Donna Karan

Starting in 1985, Donna Karan offered professional women a wardrobe that could be adapted to form a personal uniform.

Donna Karan did not simply design clothes, se responded to a life-style by proposing timelessly sophisticated yet simple outfits.

Active women could be well dressed for work without neglecting their femininity.

Donna Karan´s approach to clothes is based on two principles: flexibility and practicality.

Inspired by the mix and match elements in a man´s wardrobe, Donna Karan´s designs (most of which are in neutral colors) aim to dress a woman using basics made from luxurious materials.

Donna Karan´s line initially consisted of seven items –bodysuit, skirt, jacket, pants, blouse, sweater, and coat –made from fabrics suitable for both winter and summer wear.

Donna Karan´s trade-mark color is black, which she uses as a background color, thereby giving women the greatest possible freedom to select accessories.

The cut of her clothes is essential, as the clothes hug the body in a comfortable, flattering way.

The bodysuit, the basis of her collection in the 1980s, was the starting point, over which full skirts and fitted jackets were born.

In the 1990s, Donna Karan reinterpreted luxury by creating a strict silhouette and using modern fibers. The dress became more important than the bodysuit.

As a woman designer, Donna Karan is better suited to anticipate her clients´expectations and desires. She uses her own body and measurements to develop new designs.

After 30 years of experience, Donna Karan, who began her career with Anne Klein in 1968, still pursues the same goal: to use the imperfections of the female body to best advantage.

Her designs follow the tradition of American sportswear, in that the clothes facilitate everyday life without sacrificing an informal elegance.
