Milk and Cereal
There is no doubt in the fact that baby milk formula has saved many lives in ages. Henri Nestle produced the first milk formula in Switzerland in 1860s. Based on cereals and cow’s milk, it was a successful imitation of breast milk. This is especially useful for babies whose mothers are unable to produce enough breast milk to feed them. Inability to produce breast milk can be due to poor diet or poverty that has rendered access of good food to these mothers.
Imitation of breast milk by Nestle
It was while visiting mothers in orphanages and poverty that Nestle felt the need of making this imitation of breast milk. The resultant was farine lactee. In 1867, this mixture was fed to a baby whose mother was also dangerously ill along with the baby and the baby survived. It was since then that the reputation of Nestle rose to the skies. Apart from this invention, Nestle was also a good marketer that made him had his offices in London within 5 years and further export his products to Australia and South America.
Positive and negative sides of milk
Almost each one of us today takes cereals and milk as their breakfast. This is because we believe that it is healthy as this is what we hear on television and from doctors. But if we listen to experts in traditional Chinese and ayurveda, it does have negative sides to it like everything on Earth. For instance, it is beneficial when taken alone, but when taken with cereals or any other food, it hardens and causes problems in digestion, absorption and producing blood. Nevertheless, spices like ginger, cardamom and cinnamon does help in assimilating milk.
By nature milk is damp and cold. However, when taken in excess, it causes extra moisture in breasts, small intestine, large intestine, vagina and stomach. Though cereals and milk is a famous breakfast with most people, it has never been mentioned in scriptures or Bible.
Milk has both positive and negative sides to it. On the one hand, it is beneficial for growth, weakness and dryness. On the other, it is not recommended in cold, mucous and phlegm. So, juice, toast, vegetable omelet, fruits, jelly, rice and chicken are better options than milk for children.
Still, if the intake of calcium is bothering you, there are few facts that you can always refer to. That is, Americans take in a lot of milk and other dairy products, yet they have a very high rate of osteoporosis, particularly in women. You may say menopause can be a reason for it, but this is not very convincing. The reason for this is that bones are made of proteins, calcium and fat. Hence, even if the intake of calcium is high, that of proteins and fat is still low, this leads to osteoporosis.
